Smokey Bear Knew Something About Typography

As it turns out, Smokey Bear is good at something other than scaring children out of camping: typography. Smokey Bear is the mascot for the US Forest Service, educating the American public about fire safety. The first poster was created by Albert Staehle in 1944. Most of the posters however, were made by Rudy Wendelin and Ad Council.

Typographically, these posters are very well put together. Taking into consideration that they were made long before the age of computers, they show a certain amount of care that is not often seen in todays advertisements. I've compiled a few of the posters here.
