Toward the end of last semester, photographer/designer Gary Blakeley invited me to work with him on his photographic portfolio. I hired fellow designer/photographer Steve Aston to assist me in the design. The initial drafts strongly revolved around the idea of a film strip, horizontally scrolling. This idea evolved into something that I believe is truly original.
The final version can be seen at: http://blakeley.me.
This passing semester in the Graphic Design program at George Brown College I received a project for my Design Culture class that sparked some interest. The design brief was essentially to create a proposal for a design museum in downtown Toronto "to be the first permanent museum devoted to graphic design in North America". I basically used this project as an excuse to spend eighty hours on something I've wanted to do for a long time.
As it turns out, Smokey Bear is good at something other than scaring children out of camping: typography. Smokey Bear is the mascot for the US Forest Service, educating the American public about fire safety. The first poster was created by Albert Staehle in 1944. Most of the posters however, were made by Rudy Wendelin and Ad Council.
